Mexico Update - Day 6

Hola everybody!

Today was a sweet day! Everyone was feeling much better! No sick people yay!:] We had breakfast today before the sun was up like always. We enjoyed pineapple, oatmeal, and sugar bread. It was muy beuno! We had our devotional shortly after that and got to spend time with our Lord! I always look forward to the devotional each morning so I can spend time with God. Its very calming. We painted more today and finished up the dorm we started Monday and the gym as well! We also painted Dan and Chuy’s house. We got to sit in chapel and play music and listen to Mike preach! It was a nice break from work:] John, Amber, Laura, Haley and I also got to help kill and clean rabbit’s for the graduation next week! It was definitely the hardest thing I did on this trip! But I’m not going to lie it was awesome!! Sorry to all you animal lovers. But it was awesome! We also got to do our last VBS today, which was soooo fun! We went around the neighborhood and invited kids to join us at MITC for fun! We had a great turn out of about 30 or 40 kids!! It was so crazy but definitely the most fun and rewarding. After we met at the chapel and sang songs, had testimonials, and we did our “Push” skit we did at Mission Dinner. I personally think it was the best we have ever done it! Then for dinner they made a great meal and gave us everything and only the best! We had this pasta stuff, French bread and chicken. It was so yummy! Now we are about to have our bible study and talk about the week. I cannot tell you how much all of us appreciate all the prayers and support you all have shown us this week! It’s so great to know we have so many great people back home praying for us! It’s such a blessing to us! I look forward to seeing all of you at the airport tomorrow afternoon! Thanks again for the prayers and support!:]

Love,
Michael Hornung

Mexico Update - Day 5

Hey Everybody!

Today we were back at the MITC and had a day similar to Monday (minus the sickness). Hannah, Kristina, Josh and Megan were still on sick leave, but they are all now feeling better and hoping to rejoin the ranks of the healthy tomorrow. Mike, Michal and I were all feeling much better today. We started off the day with breakfast at 6 am like usual; it was eggs, watermelon, beans and tortillas. After breakfast we all headed to crash until quiet time. It’s amazing how refreshed you feel after an hour nap. ☺ Like Monday, we split in to three groups and worked on the painting projects we started before. My group was painting the outside of a dorm while the other two painted inside the gym and in the kitchen. For café we had awesome taco/fajita things and some sort of orange kool-aid. After we finished with all of our painting we ate lunch and tried to get as much paint as possible off of ourselves. Around four we loaded up and headed to a church in the mountains about an hour away. There we put on a VBS, sang in a church service and helped out with Sunday school. Then we loaded back up and raced to the MITC to eat some AMAZING tacos. Please be praying for us as we finish out our week; we are all getting a little tired! Praise the Lord that all of our sick people are feeling better!

Love,
Amber Parsoneault

Mexico Update - Day 4 (continued)

Hello Everyone!

I got back from the village about six hours ago and I had the best time! We arrived in trucks as Michal and Amber had wrote in the last blog. When we got there many people and children came running out to look at us. We unloaded our stuff and waited for Kirby to tell us what we would be doing. He told us we would be painting their little church white and brown! Struggling with the pressure of missing four people from our group to be from what seems to be a virus, we had to jump right in the try and get the job done! We painted for about an hour and a half and before we knew it we had finished one coat of paint throughout the whole inside of the church. It was lunchtime now. We went in the cutest little hut where the women had been preparing our meal for hours. They cooked from a counter where they had to make their own fire, which was pretty neat looking. They had cooked us GIANT tortillas, chicken, and rice. Everyone enjoyed the meal and we soon headed back to the church to do a second coat. When we got there Alfredo and some others were painting already so we jumped right in. It took us about another hour to finish the inside then we started on the front. Also, the whole time we were painting the kids were all surrounding the church just staring at us. It was pretty funny! Next we took all the kids to a basketball court to have VBS. First we played games, then sang songs, and had our little stories. After the color story we gave out bracelets that went along with the story. The kids loved them! We also gave out little coloring books and some crayons and it was so humbling to me to see how much those kids appreciated them. I mean they carried the coloring bags with them every where they went that whole rest of the day! To refresh us from the hot long day, Kirby took us to a little stream to go swimming. All the children followed us there and jumped. The funniest part was that a lot of the little boys were doing flips off the rock and so John decided to do one! John got up on the rock and did a back flip off of it! After the swim we took our bags to the house that the girls would be sleeping and changed into our church dresses because Kirby had told us that they wanted us to run the church service. We were not prepared at all for something like that so john asked the guys to help him and to calm his nerves. We had some down time before church then finally church started at about nine thirty. When it was time for our group to go up and sing we realized that we defiantly rely on Mike so much for help but we got up there and tried our best! Finally the group of us got up there and did our bible study. It went very well, but later on one of our team members got pretty sick. It was Josh Laster, so if you could be praying for his health it would be very much appreciated. Just at perfect timing it started to pour down rain, as the women were preparing our food. Dinner was ready at about 11:30. We ate empanadas and chicken soup! We finally got into bed about one and crashed. We woke up this morning to Josh still being pretty sick. So we got up and stared finishing the line in the church so that right when Alfredo got back we could leave to get back to the MITC. They stopped us at 10:30 to eat breakfast, they had made us eggs GIANT tortillas, and beans. We ate then went back to work almost finished Alfredo arrived and we had to stop and pack the trucks up and go. We arrive and the MITC at about four, got Josh in bed and checked on the others, they are all feeling so much better and are all out of bed and having a good time. Josh is feeling better than he was yesterday but is resting tonight. But on the other note Hannah is not feeling to good now. We are taking very good care of them both and praying for them lots. Please be praying for the teams health that it gets better and that no ones else gets it! Thank you!
Love,
Ryan Runnels

Mexico Update - Day 4

Hey Everyone!
Most of our team headed to a village deep in the mountains yesterday morning at around 8. However a virus seems to be going around and Mike McCullough and Amber Parsoneault weren’t feeling well and had to stay behind at the MITC. The bus ride up was about three and half hours long but we got to a point in the mountains where it wouldn’t be possible to continue riding on the bus, so we stopped and two pick up trucks grabbed our packs and took us the rest of the way. Most of the team stood in the bed of one of the trucks where they held on to this railing that they had installed in the back. While we were waiting for the trucks to arrive, Kirby, Dan Hall’s son showed us a beautiful waterfall that was near our stop. On the bus ride, I started feeling sick and by the time we got to the church we were going to be painting Megan and I both were really ill. We were put into a lady’s house where we spent the majority of the afternoon sleeping and feeling ill, while the rest of the team painted the inside of the church, ate lunch and had a VBS with the kids a little ways from the church. Our group seems to be having lots of fun playing with the kids in the village and they all seem very curious, Megan and I often woke up to little kids peeking at us from the doorway, and John said they all watched them paint the church. They played games with our team and threw around limes in a kind of “lime dodge-ball” game. At around 5 p.m. Alfredo, one of the guys that works at the MITC who was in the village with us, offered to take Megan and I back to the MITC to rest up and hopefully get better. We arrived back to the school at around 9:30 p.m. where Mike and Amber were very surprised to see us back so soon. Chuy (Dan’s wife) is taking good care of us all, and we are praying for our team in the village, that none of them get sick either. Mike and Amber slept mostly all day yesterday and visited with the Halls. Please be praying for the rest of the group’s health and strength for the rest of the week and that Mike, Amber, Megan, and I will recover quickly. We are all starting to feel a little better thanks to lots of rest, and Gatorade and Manzana Lift, thanks to Chuy and Dan.

Mexico Update - Day 3

Hey Guys,

God once again was good and blessed us with a beautiful day to begin the physical labor at the MITC. So yesterday was a huge workday for everyone and was also the first day that exhaustion took toll on everyone. We all had to rely on God to give us the strength we needed to complete our projects and keep motivating each other. Yesterday everyone worked on painting projects of some sort until lunchtime and then after that we all headed for a local park where some played soccer with the MITC students while others ran a VBS for the kids in the neighborhood. We all stepped up and worked through the tiredness and tomorrow will be heading for a village where we will be painting a church and loving on the children of Cordoba. I pray for our team as we are becoming tired that we can all continue to serve with great hearts through the fatigue and we thank you all for praying as well. We are really excited to see God work in us the rest of this week. Thanks for your support!
Much Love,
Kristen

Mexico Update - Day 2

Hey Hermanos
This morning we woke up to a beautiful morning in Cordoba, sang some songs in Spanish, and ate a delicious breakfast of fried eggs, tortillas, beans, fresh cantalope, and of course Mexican coffee with pure sugar cane sugar!
After breakfast, we spread out and had a quiet time and practiced our VBS skits before going to a small church called filadelfia in a village called potrero about fourty five minutes away from the MITC. There weren’t many kids to do a VBS with, so instead we were able to sit in the service the whole time. We sang some songs in Spanish with the Mexicans, many of them were traditional songs that we were able to recognize, which was really neat. They introduced us and we sang a couple songs including Fields are White and Prince of Peace, which the Mexicans really seemed to enjoy and responded with an amen, which was really cool. Mike spoke about grace and the brevity of our lives with Dan as his translator. It was really impacting to hear Mike say a short sentence and hear it repeated in Spanish, and the pauses in between phrases allowed me to really listen to what he was saying to us, which I think helped us focus on his words. God really spoke through Mike today and it was evident because he was preaching a different message than he had planned, and it showed me just how much God was working in him and speaking through him. After the message, Brooke, the intern from Louisiana who is working with the MITC announced it was Kristina’s birthday, which resulted in the congregation singing “Feliz Cumpleanos” and them lining up to give her kisses and hugs. She looked a little confused, but the gesture was really sweet and she told me later how touching it was.
They fed us a wonderful lunch, with a sort of fried chicken patty, noodles, bread, beans, mashed potatoes, a hot avocado sauce, chocolate cake, and a refreshing glass of Coke (with real sugar cane sugar!). It was definitely one of the highlights of my day, and we were all so grateful to get to sit down and eat such a great meal in the heat of the day. After lunch, we returned to the MITC and had about an hour of down time, where the majority of our group took a good nap, before heading out to another church much closer to the school called Iglesia Ebenezer or The Torch. Here we also got to sing some songs with the Mexicans, and sing up stage as well, where they requested “Humble Thyself” and “We Fall Down.” Then when Mike got up to preach, the rest of us gathered the kids together to play games, sing songs, perform skits, color with them, and just get to love on the kids and try to communicate with them. John and the boys were a hit, when the younger kids decided to run after them, tackle them to the ground, and instigate tickle fights. But before too long Mike finished, and we had to leave the church. The people here are so grateful for us, and everyone greets us with big smiles and lots of Spanish words I don’t understand, but the language barrier has not hindered our ability to praise God together, which continues to amaze me. Right now we are just hanging out and anxiously awaiting more delicious food at dinner in less than an hour. I can’t wait to see the things God will do here, and in our hearts. Its amazing to think this is only our first complete day, and we still get to be here for six more! Be praying for us, we are so grateful to know that you guys are supporting us throughout this week!
-Much Love

Mexico Update - Day 1

Hey guys from México,
It was a sweet day. We met at the airport making it the first of many early days! The flight was uneventful praise God for that, many of us got to rest for a short while! Clearing customs was nerve-racking experience for me, a was one of the first in line and the kept me much longer than any one else thanks to God that I made it into the country or it could have been a short trip for me. After Customs we meet Alfredo our guide for the airport to Cordoba, he is a soft-spoken but extremely kind man. Many more of use got sleep on the bus, but were woken my Mike’s singing, however before long he had the whole bus singing along to the Jonas brothers. I moment I stepped off the bus at the MITC all the fears I had for both the team and the trip washed away. Seeing Dan hall lifted my sprits in only the way a great man of God can. Singing and eating in the dinning hall with guitars in the background I once again feel truly at home. To all the parents, we made it here safely and I know from personal experience some of us are already missing you. I pray for the team’s safety along with the difficulties only Mexico can bring.

With love, Zachary
