Bible Study is Back on!!

We're back on schedule and going to shake things up a bit! This week's Bible Study is going to be like no other!

Here's something special for this week:

1) Hear about Mike's trip to Israel (complete with a neat-o slide show and some things for "Show and Tell"!

2) Come hear a special announcement from Chris Thompson about a cool opportunity for being involved with the Junior High at Woodcreek next fall!

3) If those first two things don't grab ya -- you will for sure want to come and see our special unveiling of Woodcreek Jenkins and the Legend of the Missing Bible Study.

It stars many people you know and love and is guaranteed to be worth the price of admission!

So come and invite your friends! And be excited - Mike's got his computer working again! (Thanks to Amanda's dad who is a genius!)

See you in the Upper Room behind the Sanctuary Wednesday at 7:00!!

Care Trip - Day Five

Our fifth day was the last day of work in the central city, and our last to see Joyce, EJ, Krazy Kristen, Grandma Mildred, Clifford, Alfred, Ray, Tasha, Tina, AG, Warren, Terrance, Devante, and all the other friends we have made there. Our hearts and prayers are with them tonight after we said our goodbyes.

We went into the projects, the land of the poor and at-risk, the land of the less fortunate and the outcast, the land of the drug dealers and street violence, the land we were taught to stay away from. And we were forever changed. The amount of kindness and gratitude that we experienced turned our hearts over within us. Everyone has such a story, and we gave them our ears and our respect. In turn they blessed us with a welcoming heart into their world, if only for a few days. My prayer tonight is that I never really leave them, that WE never leave, never forget our friends. God is at work in our world, in our city, in our community, in our neighborhood. I can't allow myself to go home, shut the door behind me, lock it, and forget: God is at work. Sometimes it is painful and seems hopeless, but our God is bigger, and His love is Mighty.

My heart is heavy tonight, but I couldn't be more proud of this group of students, who gave up their spring break to give back. To make a difference. To bring hope. To listen and not judge. I love these kids and leaders very much and I urge you to ask them to share their story.

Goodnight- see you this Easter weekend.

Care trip - Day Four

Eric Flemister has volunteered to give you a run-down of today's events:

Today was fantastic, started out with a special breakfast named "The Covington" which was good. Afterwards a guest speaker had a quick message for us and then we were quickly on our way to our worksite getting all the extra time we could. We got there early and started just were we left off the day before, cory and his hard working crew got straight to siding, others were scraping off old paint and putting up new, and the others were deconstructing getting the house ready for sheeting. Overall a lot of work got done and it was a great work day. after that we got back just in time for dinner where we met a lot of new people who came to share the Lord with us. Among them was a pastor from Kenya, even though it was extremely hard to understand what he was saying you knew he was talking the Word. He ended up giving a final extremely impacting prayer. Michal Anne Jensby and Ben Davis stood up in front of a room of about two hundred to tell how God was impacting their lives on this trip. A little basketball and a shower would wrap up the day.

On a side note i was listening to young lady who so badly wanted to come to N.O. to serve for the Lord that she had to quit her job just to have the week free to come serve in the Lord's name. I believe it's people as caring and faithful as this women that God wants spreading his glory. Michal and Ben also had good points when they spoke tonight saying that "well since i can't go to Mexico i'll go to N.O. and help people there and impact their lives. But when i went on my first prayer walk and heard how much they had known about God and his glory i was blown way. The wonderful people that I'm supposed to impact were probably more impacting in raising my faithfulness and awareness of God's power than i could of ever been to them."

This has been a GREAT trip and i can't wait to see what is to come.

Eric

P.S. i love you mom

This Wednesday!

Hey Guys!

In light of Spring Break happening and our awesome CARE team gone, we are going to shake it up a little bit for Bible Study tomorrow! Instead of our normal routine, we are going to move back over to the Youth Room at 7:00 to hangout with everyone. We'll turn on some tunes, pull out a little 3 hak wak, and just enjoy hanging out with each other.

So, if you've got nothin' else going on -- come hang with us tomorrow in the Youth Room from 7 to about 9ish (maybe grab some Wendy's after!)

See you there!

Care Trip - Day Three

Work has begun!  An ex-fireman named Scott gave us a crash course in siding, as we headed into the heart of New Orleans to help repair a home for a nice lady named Joyce and her family.  Everyone jumped into the work, and even with the instruction we accomplished a great deal of work.

Even more valuable was the time spent walking around the neighborhood meeting residents.  They are so open and friendly, with such powerful stories to tell.  We go thinking we are doing the ministering, but many times are being encouraged by those living in the projects.  They recognize our "I HEART N.O." shirts ad immediately know we are there to encourage, uplift, and pray with them for God to move in their community.

Even in one day our hearts are changing towards the inner city community, stereotypes are being thrown aside, barriers are being broken.  Love and compassion, and sincere hearts following God's call have all lead us to these wonderful new relationships.  May God continue to change us, bless those we serve, and move within us during this week.

Care Trip - Day Two

Hey Guys!  Wow,  we had a long day!  We started off the morning attending a Palm Sunday church service at Trinity Fellowship, where we are staying.  The service was in the same sanctuary the boys are sleeping in!  The service was very similar to RBFC, and the senior pastor even came out of Dallas Theological Seminary.

After lunch we headed into downtown New Orleans and toured some of the most devastated areas.  Central City projects w
ere the first places we visited and will also be home to our work sites.  We then headed to the 9th ward, which was the area most damaged by the broken levee.  Nearly every house in this giant neighborhood is gone.  There stood one church, which was full of broken furniture and semi-dried mud from the lake bottom.  We saw an airplane that had crashed into a house, still resting on the nose of its  broken frame.  We also took notice of two houses hich had blown off their foundation, over a small canal, and into the field on the other side.

The damage, even 2 1/2 years later is still enormous.  The endless rows of empty, useless, dangerously broken houses leaves us utterly overwhelmed.  There is a true sense of hopelessness in some parts of the town.

But New Orleans is still alive, and we saw that first hand in the French Quarter!  Thousands of tourists were enjoying the shops, street performers, and riverwalk.

Once we returned to the church, all the other groups had arrived and now there are about 100 people staying with us.  Party!  OK, I'm tired and everyone is asleep, so I will report back to you tomorrow - when we start the work we came to do.

God Bless

Care Trip - Day One

We are here!  We pulled in around 5:30pm and had pizza with the staff of Trinity EFCA.  We are the only group here tonight, we have the whole church to ourselves!

The boys played basketball until our legs fell off (a great way to start before a week of hard work!)  Soon after that we retired to bed.

You can find more pictures in the slideshow at the bottom of this page!

Goodnight!
