Mexico Update #8 - Hunter and Nathan

Dear Diary, Today was awesome. I'm pretty sure Daniel and I had a moment. He's so cute! Anyways, we woke up around 5:59 as usual and ate breakfast at 6. We then got volunteered to do dishes by Blackwell. What a jerk. We still managed to sneak in a 45 minute nap before we started work around 8:15. After a few hours of work we had chapel. It ruled. We went from there to cafe (cafay) and had awesome giant nachos. After a few more hours of work we had lunch and ate hamburger vegetable grease medley with our oh so familiar beans and corn tortillas. We then ventured into the mountains for VBS. We sang songs and played games and not to mention got the entire community to learn "shake the rock" or " sayuda la roca". We just got back and ate beans and bread. Also we discovered that A-Train's back looks like a pus-filled pork rind due to the blazing Mexican sun. I don't think KFC could have cooked him crispier.
Until next time diary,
Nathan and Hunter

We woke up to a normal day, breakfast the usual... Beans. But the afternoon was different we played a sweet soccer game with the Mexican students. After that we headed down to yonder beach had fun on the ocean front property and all got crispified me especially, but any who it was an awesome day.
(Jon): we went to vera cruz today with the students from the school. They were celebrating the end of the semester with a trip to the beach. What fun!

Mexico Update #6 - Hillary Williams

Hey Everyone--
It's definitely been another eventful day here in Mexico. Breakfast at 6 a.m. is really awesome, let me tell you. We girls tend to sleep for another hour after breakfast when we have free time and then begin our work for the day.
Today most of the boys continued digging a hole for a cistern across the street while the rest of us finished painting Dan & Chuy's house. Kristina, Emma and I started painting a wall white but there's a teal color underneath...so it needs about 9384579348 coats of paint so it won't show through.
We began scraping the cafeteria walls and repainting it so that it looks good for the students' graduation later this month. Zac and Hunter made many attempts to get a wasp nest down with a broom from the underside of the roof and ran away about 4 times before actually knocking it down. Good entertainment for me, the Lone Scraper on a building about 10 feet from where they were. They also tried to get within view of Ben's video camera, trying to be in the Mission Video as many times possible, so be on the lookout when you see the video.
To most of the team's dismay, Ben & Robert made a deal with Nathan where if he didn't shower for the rest of the week, they'd pay him $50. They had rules for him, like 1 swipe of deodorant per arm each day, no napkins, no attempts at washing off dirt while walking in the rain. This lasted through lunch, where they paid him $15 TO take a shower. All of us sighed in relief because frankly, we didn't want to smell him and it's just not sanitary. This afternoon we traveled to a little village near La Concha, a larger town and did a big VBS. This village had no sort of church, and we were praying that we might be able to reach some of the people. We divided up and went with MITC students to invite the children of the town to meet us for games, songs and other activities. We had 100+ kids come (and even some parents) which was awesome. We played Ring Around the Rosy, "Pato, Pato, Gonzo" (Duck, Duck, Goose) and Sharks & Minnows. We colored and me, Mac, Kimmy, Taylor, Annie, Ben & Jesse did a skit for the kids showing Jesus' love for them. A man named Fernando preached to them in Spanish and talked about the Bible.
When it was time to leave, they were sad and asked when we were coming back. Unfortunately, I had to tell them that we wouldn't be back until next year. However, 4 families in the village told us they wanted to study the Bible, so praise God! After we leave, students from MITC will continue to go back to the village and hopefully they might soon gather more believers and eventually form a church. We got back to MITCH just in time for dinner and everyone will tell you that today, the meals rocked. We had great stuff to eat all day long.
This evening consisted of playing basketball and a trip to Bodega (equivalent to Wal-Mart here in Mexico) with Chuy, Terry Belter, Jon & Mike to get new soccer balls to replace the ones we popped by accident. It's time for our Bible study now, so be ready for another update later! Hasta manana!

Mexico Update #5 - Brian Buford

Today we painted and broke cement for a parking lot. We all worked hard and finished our jobs even though we all wanted to sleep because we woke up at 5:30.
a word from Jon: Since Brian is a man of few words, I will supplement this insightful update! First of all my cabin, including Brian, DID NOT wake up at 5:30, but at 6:05 - because my alarm was set to 5:30 pm! (sorry guys!) We helped wash the morning dishes in return for our tardiness.
So three jobs were given to us today:
1. dig a huge hole for the septic tank of the chapel and new dorms.
2. scrape and paint the outside of Dan Hall's house
3. Sand and refinish the wooden bleachers of the gymnasium
It is great to be at the school all week with our Mexican friends. We invited children from all across town to a VBS held in the gymnasium. The rain was pouring so hard that many could not come. But the little ones who were there were amazing. The usual "plato, Plato, Ganzo" game was played. We led some songs, as did some of the students of the church.
By the way, these mexicans really know how to enjoy a pickup soccer game! I'm talking banners and cheers and everything else you could imagine. we felt like superstars.
Off to bible study now. Tonight's is led by hunter, Devin, and Cory.

Mission Update #4 - Taylor Timinsky

el cuatro de Junio en el ano 2006
somewhere around 7:30 pm
There has been a change in the weather as it is actually raining right now, and we haven't had the effects of the scorching sun. Don't get us wrong, we definitely are not complaining. Breakfast began promptly at 7:30 today, which is actually an hour and a half earlier than when we will normally start. That's right, breakfast begins at 6:00 am. We did learn new songs like yo tengo gozo and la b-i-b-l-i-a for the vacation bible schools that we assisted in. I don't think anyone could ever imagine how super rad those kids are, and I'm certain that Jon will post pictures up asap.
We met two wonderful congregations from the La Cumbre and Ebenezer, and even performed a couple of our own songs. Afterwards, we were given a scrumptious brownie/helado plate, and some amazing pineapple juice. This leads me to add that the food that we eat during our meals is delicious. I'm definitely a fan of el pollo. The people staying here make the meal thrice as exciting, and it will be fun conversing when them over the course of the week.
until later,
buenos noches

Mission Update #3 - Kimmy Mauldin

Dearest Parents and Sponsors,
Well we got here safely! The trip down here was long and nice. Believe it or not, it is raining and cool! (well for here at least) It was so great to see that. Our group seems to get along well at this point in the trip and everyone seems to be pretty happy. This morning, we are getting ready to go to La Cumbre to go to church and do a VBS. Then this afternoon we will go to The Torch or Ebenezer (i think i spelled that right) to go to another church and hopefully another VBS.
We are going to be staying the whole week at the school painting, working apparently 9 feet under ground (what?), and praising God with the other students. They have been so sweet to us here, totally embracing us even though most of us don't know a lick of spanish. The people here are fantastic and i think we will all have a great time (many inside jokes have already been made and we haven't been here a whole day)
well i guess i'll let ya'll go but i still ask for prayer. that is really what we all need. and please don't just pray for us as your children but for the people here at the school and for the people we will be meeting in other places. thank you so much for all your support and encouragement! we really appreciate it and may God bless you on this Sunday!
with all Christ's love,
kimmy
Mission Update #2 - Daniel Warner

We just got into Cordoba and situated our beds. We divided the two rooms by grades, one juniors and seniors and the other the lower class men. It took us close to 5 hours to drive from Mexico City to where we are staying because of a huge traffic jam. The good thing about the traffic jam is that we got to watch all the crazy Mexican drivers get stuck in mud and come close to crashing every 5 seconds. Right now I'm really hungry and hopefully dinner will be soon.
Mission Update #1 - Mac Abney

So me and Jon are chillin here at the gate. . . the entire mission team deserted us to go and search out food. Thats startin to sound like a good idea. Ok, now I'm all alone, cause Jon went in search of food as well. Haha, the first day is always the most crazy cause of all the traveling. Yay. So the flight will be about 2 hours. . . maybe they'll have an inflight movie! Well, I'm signing off, so maybe I'll update again later. I think John is handing the IBook to kids to talk about it. SO! Adios amigos!
